Collateral Damage

My organization, Focus on the Story, kicked off its speakers’ series last night with a panel discussion at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C. Our guest speaker was James Whitlow Delano, a photojournalist based in Tokyo who has covered climate change issues all around the world. However, for this discussion, he presented his work documenting the impact of the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines under President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs. The families of the victims, almost all of them residents of the slums, are the collateral damage in this war.

A selection of these photos were part of James’ winning entry in our Focus on the Story 2018 Awards.
