U Street is alive with the sound of music

I came out of the Metro Station on U Street tonight and saw a crowd of people in front of the Lincoln Theatre. I guess I had Nelson Mandela on my mind because I thought maybe it was some sort of impromptu vigil to mark his passing. Instead, it was the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington.

They were singing some Christmas carols prior to the Sound of Music Live! viewing party. Apparently, the theatre was simulcasting a live NBC production of the Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood in the Julie Andrews role.
