Caroling in front of the Lincoln Theatre / Photo by Joe Newman

U Street is alive with the sound of music

I came out of the Metro Station on U Street tonight and saw a crowd of people in front of the Lincoln Theatre. I guess I had Nelson Mandela on my mind because I thought maybe it was some sort of impromptu vigil to mark his passing. Instead, it was the¬†Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington.

They were singing some Christmas carols prior to the Sound of Music Live! viewing party. Apparently, the theatre was simulcasting a live NBC production of the Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood in the Julie Andrews role.
