Celebrating the holidays in San Francisco

I’m in San Francisco this week before heading to Las Vegas to ring in the New Year and attend the NMX — The New Media Expo.

I’ve had a decades long love affair with San Francisco. It may be my favorite city in the U.S. — definitely in the top three. The city has everything — great scenery, interesting architecture, well-defined vibrant neighborhoods, good public transportation and world-class dining options, along with some really fine local haunts.

The weather has been beautiful this week, which is an added bonus.

There’s not a lot on the itinerary. We’re visiting with family and friends, mostly. I’ll probably do some wandering around the city with my new lens — the Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm f/1.4.

The picture above, however, was not shot with the new 25mm. I had to use my iPhone5 to capture this photo of the “Christmas Angel” in Union Square because the battery on my Olympus E-M5 was dead and I wasn’t carrying a spare.

That’s one of the annoying things you have to watch with the E-M5, when you turn it on, it always gives you a “full” green battery symbol, no matter how much power is left. I knew this but we were in a rush when we left the place where we’re staying and didn’t double-check the battery level.

So, the first samples with the new lens will come later this week.
